Second grade is an exciting year of learning and growth. The sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are celebrated in this grade, providing a strong core focus and link among faith, school, and family. Students will build upon the skills they've already mastered and implement them to further their knowledge and proficiency in all subject areas.

Social Studies - We will talk about how people live and work in communities, exaamples of good citizenship, map skills, and basic econonomics (My World).
English Language Arts - We will be reading both nonfiction and fiction stories weekly to build our fluency and our accuracy. After reading, we will respond to both literal and inferential comprehension questions about the text both orally and in writing. In grammar we will learn more about the structure of our English language and the parts of speech. Weekly spelling tests will help to build our phonetic awareness. We will produce informative, opinion, and narrative writing pieces following the writing process of planning, drafting, editing, and publishing (Journeys).
Religion - We will study the sacraments with an emphasis on Reconciliation, Eucharist, and the Mass. We will become more aware of our Catholic heritage. Prayer, liturgy, scripture, and morality are stressed.
